HMS Astute

Built by BAE Systems, Oilgear Towler was awarded a contract to supply the valves and manifolds used in a customized and ultra-reliable weapons handling system of the recently-launched HMS Astute nuclear-powered submarine used by the British Royal Navy.

Facing a high level of technical requirements, the Royal Navy was looking for a high standing company well known for the quality of its products and services. Oilgear Towler was selected as a sub-contractor because of the company’s ability to design, build and test custom hydraulics components to meet the needs of the Royal Navy. Oilgear Towler's team of world class engineers designed a system of valves and customized manifolds that allowed for effective handling and operation to the exacting standards of the Royal Navy.
 
With our components in place, the HMS Astute will be the first of four vessels to be built. This 7,400-ton British "super-sub" is the largest and most powerful submarine ever built for the Royal Navy. This submarine will carry 38 Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of 1,240 miles, as well as spearfish torpedoes for attacking ships and other submarines.
